BUILDING CONSTRUCTION AND SYSTEMS FOR THE INTERIOR
INDS 306
In Fall 2024, I took Building Construction and Systems for the Interior, a course at SCAD focused on understanding how buildings are put together and how interior designers work within those systems. We studied structural and non-structural assemblies, wall systems, ceilings, and various construction materials, while also learning how mechanical and environmental systems impact interior spaces.
Throughout the quarter, we created detailed drawings to better understand how these elements come together. I completed my final cabinet detail in Revit, developed wall partition details in Revit, and drafted ceiling transition details in AutoCAD. I also explored cabinet detailing by hand in Procreate to strengthen my understanding of joinery and material connections. This course helped me feel more confident reading and producing construction documents and reinforced the importance of collaboration between architects, engineers, contractors, and interior designers.
